Its not often that I get to see my work after the event, and generally on the day I will be running around doing my job, so miss a lot of the whole ‘effect’.
So, I am pleased to share this video from a wedding I planned at Nunsmere Hall, and I also did all the flowers. Rebecca and Daniel were a lovely couple who really took on board my ideas and let me run with it. The day came together brilliantly and even the weather was playing ball! Rebecca and Daniel’s reactions when they walked into the reception room were priceless, actually they were speechless, which was lovely and makes me feel so proud.
Special details on the day included outside games area, dressed staircase for the bride to walk down, a stunning choice of flowers and an extrodinarily good looking couple!

Nunsmere Hall were fantastic to work with and really were stars on the day.

Some of you may have been wondering where I have been…the honest answer…nowhere! As with most of the world’s population I was swept away with Christmas, parties, family and much overeating. Also, along with most of the population I have been having the post-festive cleanse both in body, mind and business. I have been on a diet, I have been sorting out ideas and most importantly I have been arranging business meetings, papers, accounts and client images.
My latest ‘project’ has been to get completely organised on all my client documents and images. As a wedding photographer you have a very very important role of keeping your clients’ memories safe, which involves making sure that everything is backed up, and should anything go wrong you have a way of rectifying the situation. When interviewing prospective photographers for your wedding, it is imperative that you ask how they go about making sure that 5 years after the wedding, if you lose your copies of your wedding photos, they can help you get new copies.
Whenever I finish a wedding I import all the photographs into a catalogue and load them onto two harddrives, I also leave the photographs on the camera memory cards until the next event. Once I have then edited the photographs, there is even more measures I take to make sure they are safe and sound:
Harddrive 1: All photographs in original format with ‘sidecar’ files that have all editing information
Harddrive 2: Exported edited images with built in information on editing information.
Harddrive 3: Exported edited images with built in information on editing information and completed album designs.
Harddrive 4: Images in High Resolution format ready for printing.
Harddrive 5: Album designs with High Resolution chosen album images.
DVDs: Each client has a seperate DVD with High Resolution images ready for printing.
You may think that this is extreme, but if one harddrive fails, I have another to back it up. Thankfully that has not happened, but nothing lasts forever, so precautions need to be taken.
Even the best storage devices are useless if the environment they are within damages them or they get stolen, so information is spread accross three (yes, three!) different premisises!
You can be assured that my clients have their images stored safe and sound and as long as they can all be kept safe they will be here should you need them.
Due to the season Christmas parties are going on right left and centre, which isn’t great for the waistline or livers, but a great opportunity to scope out decorations and generally have a good time!
Whilst at my husband’s work Christmas do I was reminded of how balloons can still be a great decoration for any event. I’m not talking about those bride and groom balloon dolls (not my taste at all!) but as table decorations. I LOVE balloons! Ever since I was little a balloon, especially a ‘floaty’ one would always cheer me up, and now I see the same with my children. How can you not smile at the sight of a big bunch of helium filled balloons!
So, I got to thinking about how balloons could be used in weddings, and perhaps offer an alternative to flowers or other expensive decorations. After some research on the good old Google Images, I came across these ideas:

I did see a full wedding where the bridal party all carried balloons instead of flowers and there were balloons tied to each guest’s chair which was used for a release instead of confetti. Now, I’m not one to recommend balloon or lantern releases as I do not like how they can harm wildlife when they come back down to earth, and I always steer my couples away from them. Most venues now will have a rule of no lanterns due to the fire risk, so if you are thinking of having them, please check with your venue.
So, instead of flowers why not give the bridesmaids small bunches of balloons? Instead of flowers on the tables have balloons? In the last picture above I absolutely love that the bunches of balloons are suspended above each table and below them is the table name written on card shaped like a cloud! Its such a lovely idea and so simple.
You can also see from the images above that balloons can really bring vibrant colour into your theme – just look at the fuchsia and green! – but you can also add subtle colour which could go well with the new trend of what are called ‘vintage’ colours.
Like I said, I really love balloons and think they liven up any space, and can make anyone smile. They are fun, vibrant and rather inexpensive, so if you are on a tight budget why not take advantage?
